Types of Internet Access

A reliable and high-speed internet connection is a critical requirement for the operation of a cyber café. Activities such as online gaming, academic research, video streaming, cloud-based applications, and printing services depend heavily on stable bandwidth and low network latency. In this project, several types of internet access commonly available in Malaysia are evaluated to determine the most suitable solution for EliteZone Cyber Station.

Comparison of Internet Access Options

ISP / Type Type of Usage Coverage Bandwidth (Typical) Estimated Monthly Cost
Unifi Fiber Primary internet connection Good fiber coverage in urban areas such as Subang Jaya 100 Mbps – 500 Mbps (symmetrical plans available) RM 149 – RM 399
Unifi Mobile (4G/5G) Backup / failover connection Depends on mobile network signal strength 20 – 200 Mbps (variable) RM 50 – RM 200
Streamyx (ADSL) Legacy broadband (limited usage) Limited availability and performance Up to 8 Mbps RM 89 – RM 150

Discussion and Justification

Unifi Fiber is selected as the primary internet connection for the cyber café due to its high bandwidth, low latency, and stable performance. These characteristics are especially important for online gaming, where packet delay and jitter can significantly affect user experience. Fiber connections also support simultaneous usage by multiple users without noticeable performance degradation.

Unifi Mobile (4G/5G) is proposed as a secondary or backup internet link. In the event of fiber service disruption, the mobile connection can provide temporary internet access to essential systems such as cashier operations, basic browsing, and management tasks. Although mobile networks are subject to speed fluctuation and data limits, they are suitable for redundancy purposes.

Streamyx (ADSL) is included for comparison purposes only. Due to its low bandwidth and higher latency, it is not recommended for modern cyber café operations, particularly gaming and multimedia usage. This option would only be considered in locations where fiber or mobile broadband is unavailable.

Final Recommendation: EliteZone Cyber Station should deploy Unifi Fiber as the main internet connection, complemented by a 4G or 5G mobile backup line for redundancy. For future scalability and remote management, business-grade plans with static IP addressing may be considered.
