Network Topology & Design

Image
Proposed Network Topology & Design Overview We propose a hybrid star topology with a centralized core switch and a Cat6/fiber backbone. The cyber café network supports gaming PCs, general browsing systems, guest Wi-Fi, cashier/server systems, CCTV monitoring, and management devices. This topology ensures high performance, scalability, easy troubleshooting, and cost efficiency. Key Networking Devices ISP modem/router (Unifi Fiber) – primary internet uplink Edge router/firewall – traffic filtering and basic security Core switch – 24-port Gigabit managed switch (VLAN & QoS support) Access switches – 16-port Gigabit switches for user zones Wireless Access Points (WAP) for guest Wi-Fi and staff devices Server/Cashier PC for billing, monitoring, and local services NVR system for CCTV video storage Physical Media & Cabling Cat6 UTP cables for wo...

Types of Internet Access

Types of Internet Access A reliable and high-speed internet connection is a critical requirement for the operation of a cyber café. Activities such as online gaming, academic research, video streaming, cloud-based applications, and printing services depend heavily on stable bandwidth and low network latency. In this project, several types of internet access commonly available in Malaysia are evaluated to determine the most suitable solution for EliteZone Cyber Station. Comparison of Internet Access Options ISP / Type Type of Usage Coverage Bandwidth (Typical) Estimated Monthly Cost Unifi Fiber Primary internet connection Good fiber coverage in urban areas such as Subang Jaya 100 Mbps – 500 Mbps (symmetrical plans available) RM 149 – RM 399 Unifi Mobile ...

Network Diagram Software

Image
Network Diagram Software To design and document the cyber café network topology, a reliable and easy-to-use network diagramming tool is required. The diagram must clearly represent the logical structure of the network, including the internet connection, core and access switches, end-user devices, servers, and security components such as CCTV and management systems. For this project, draw.io (also known as diagrams.net) was selected as the primary network diagram software. draw.io is a free, web-based diagramming tool that supports standard networking symbols, structured layouts, and high-resolution exports. It allows the network topology to be designed accurately without requiring paid software or advanced technical skills. The software supports common networking components such as routers, switches, access points, servers, and client devices. It also allows clear ...

Conclusion

Conclusion In conclusion, the design and implementation of the EliteZone Cyber Station network successfully address the key requirements of a modern cyber café, including high performance, reliability, scalability, and ease of management. The proposed hybrid star topology provides a structured and centralized network layout, enabling efficient data flow and simplified troubleshooting. The use of Cat6 cabling, VLAN segmentation, and VLSM-based IP addressing ensures optimal bandwidth utilization, reduced network congestion, and improved security by separating user traffic, management systems, and critical services such as cashier operations and CCTV monitoring. These design choices align with standard networking best practices taught in the Data Communication and Networking course. In terms of internet connectivity, the selection of Unifi Fiber as the primary access link provides...
